Restoration of the Old Williton Police Station

The Old Police Station in Williton is a familiar historic building dating back to the late 1800s. Built to serve as the village’s main policing hub, it features solid stone construction, distinctive curved ceilings, and traditionally crafted stone windows. After more than a century of use and multiple changes over time, the building needed careful restoration to bring it back to its original character.

Our 7 Month Restoration Project

We were appointed to complete a full internal restoration over a 7 month period. The aim was to return the interior to a sound, clean finish while retaining the charm and history that make the building unique.

Framed From the Existing Stone Walls

To protect the original structure, all new work was framed off the existing stone walls. This allowed us to create a level, stable surface without disturbing the historic fabric beneath. The approach ensured the building kept its original character while achieving the high quality finish required.

Preserving the Curved Ceilings

One of the most notable features of the police station is its curved ceilings. These were carefully followed and maintained throughout the restoration, ensuring the smooth, sweeping shapes remained true to the building’s age and design. Every surface was finished cleanly while keeping the original form intact.

Hand Restored Stone Windows

A key part of the project involved the building’s original stone-framed windows. Each window was restored entirely by hand, cleaning back the stonework, repairing worn areas, and preserving the traditional craftsmanship. The aim was not to replace the character, but to reveal it again.

A Respectful and Practical Restoration

Throughout the project, the focus was on quality, accuracy, and respect for the station’s heritage. By blending traditional elements with modern standards of finish, the building has been brought back to life without losing what made it special.
